Xiaomi has just been surpassed by Huawei in its home market, but the company is still one of the most popular and most affordable smartphone manufacturers in the world. Xiaomi is trying to move in on the American market, following in the footsteps of Huawei. Although the Xiaomi Mi5 would have been an excellent entry for U.S. customers, it looks like Xiaomi has something else in mind. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro release seems to be closer than that of the Xiaomi Mi5 as new leaked certification documents suggest.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 4C will be an entry-level mid-range smartphone that is already being sold in certain parts of Asia, such as India and South Korea. The debut of the company in the U.S. market with such a phone might not be that successful, but it will certainly raise some well-deserved brand awareness in the country. Xiaomi is known for making high-quality, yet affordable devices, which are a segment of the U.S. market that hasn’t been addressed that much lately.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro design is admirable, with a colorful matte plastic construction that’s fit for the market Xiaomi is targeting: youth. Although the setup of the device seems a bit outdated, the high-quality hardware within make the user experience with this phone pretty good, even when using the camera. Although it’s not a Xiaomi Mi Note Pro camera, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro camera is decent enough for general social media fans.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro, should it land in the United States, is definitely in the mid- to low-range of Xiaomi’s spectrum. The phone has a 4.7-inch IPS HD display, a Snapdragon 410 processor, 16 GB of internal storage, 2 GB of RAM, a 2,200 mAh battery, the usual 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, and support for 4G LTE. You’ll also find that it has a 2-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel back camera, and as far as I can tell, you’ll be opening the box to find that it run Android 4.4 KitKat. It goes without saying that if this were to come to the US, most Android enthusiasts (or even Xiaomi enthusiasts) wouldn’t bat an eye.
