Xiaomi Mi5 fingerprint reader is called "world's smallest and fastest"

All eyes are on Xiaomi as the company will eventually introduce its long-awaited Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship phone. We have seen a few images leaked, but nothing official. In fact, some of these pictures were subsequently dismissed as fakes, or were revealed to be older Xiaomi models. Company CEO Lei Jun, who has been using the device as his daily driver, says that the Mi 5 is well worth waiting for. How long will that wait be?

As you can see, the image of the front of the device shows an incredibly small Home button - which is there in order to house a fingerprint scanner.

It is said that the NFC-capable Xiaomi Mi 5 will be toting the world's smallest fingerprint sensor underneath the hood, not to mention it being the fastest, too. As for the remaining bit of the design, it will be close to what Xiaomi's design DNA is like, where there is a metal frame surrounding the chassis, in addition to a 2.5D glass that is located on top of the display panel, whereas the back will have an even more curved "3D" glass.

As far as specs go, the Mi 5 will feature Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC, according to this rumor, and 3/4GB of RAM will be included on the inside. The device will also pack in 32/64GB of internal storage, and a 5.2-inch 1080p or QHD display will be available up front. Now, the main camera sensor is reportedly the 16-megapixel one, and a 13-megapixel shooter will be available up front. The phone will allegedly pack in a 3,600mAh non-removable battery, and Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3 will also be at your disposal. Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to run out of the box, with Xiaomi's MIUI 7 OS installed on top of it, of course.

While we suggest that you take the image that accompanies this story with the proverbial grain of salt, we look forward to seeing an official release from the manufacturer. Xiaomi is said to be expecting heavy demand for the phone, and the long delay only increases the excitement and the buzz that surrounds it.
