New rendered images of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 have appeared online once again. In addition, the smartphones's patent document have also been shared which also show  a patent application for a fingerprint sensor by Xiaomi.

A Weibo user uploaded pictures of the device but took it down shortly after that. One will sport a home button placed below the screen. The device seems to have slim bezels along with a large screen size. It is most likely to sport a USB Type-C port, and speaker on one side of that port and microphone on the other side.

Few other images have also appeared online for a Xiaomi fingerprint sensor. According to the report, it should be the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and should also work when you touch anywhere on the screen. In addition, it is being said that the display for the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be pressure sensitive, similar to Apple's 3D touch.

As per the latest leaks, Xiaomi Mi 5 will sport a 5.5-inch screen with 2K (1440x2560p) resolution. The phone will be powered by the recently-launched 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset along with 4GB of RAM. There will be 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options available to users.

The Xiaomi Mi5 was originally expected to be released by September this year, but the device was a no show at IFA. There were multiple possible release dates after that, but the device never really saw the light of the day. The latest rumours are suggesting that the phone might launch on January 21, 2016 but given the recent track record, we would not have our hopes high.
