The rumours and leaks about Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Pro smartphone cannot stop pouring in. With the launch scheduled for 27 July, Xiaomi has now begun putting up teasers via various Weibo accounts and today’s video finally confirms one of the new features, an OLED display.

The teaser post accompanied by a video confirms the presence of an OLED display in the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Pro smartphone. As reported by Xiaomi Device, the teaser reveals the feature as a (makeshift) French dessert aptly called ‘OLED Ping’. The text accompanying the post also revealed that from the current day till launch day, Xiaomi will announce the Redmi Pro using three spokespersons.
While an OLED display is no big deal in the smartphone world, it is a big step for Xiaomi that until now stuck to IPS LCD panels. This would also be Xiaomi’s first smartphone or device to feature an OLED display, which also raises questions about its price tag. OLED displays do not come cheap, Samsung uses them in hand-picked smartphones and Apple too is planning to take a giant leap by utilizing the same display tech in its upcoming iPhones. With that said, Xiaomi’s Redmi Pro and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 may not be priced in line with its currently available Note range.
Expect it to be priced a bit higher than the usual and this is more so when you consider that it is also expected to pack in MediaTek’s newer deca-core chipset, the 2.3GHz Helio X20. With the Xiaomi Mi5 Pro around the Rs 30,000 mark in China, we could expect this year’s Redmi Note Pro to be priced similarly; especially when you consider an OLED display on board. Other leaked specifications include 3GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, 13MP primary camera and a 4,100mAh battery.
