Xiaomi Mi MIX to be limited to 10,000 units per month

Xiaomi will likely not be able to mass-produce its "bezel-less" Xiaomi Mi MIX smartphone, mainly due the device's premium all-ceramic body. The production capacity for the futuristic phone will reportedly be limited to around 10,000 units per month, which, combined with the fact that Xiaomi has confirmed with us its intentions to sell the smartphone only in China, even further diminishes most people's chances of getting their hands on a similar device in the near future.

Not only did Xiaomi manage to keep the device a complete secret -- tech journalists were gathered at a Beijing event expecting only the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 -- the company initially introduced the phone in vague terms, calling it a concept device. It also spent an hour introducing the phone's almost magical design and specs, leaving many journalists, including me, questioning why Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was spending so much time talking about the gadget.

According to Kevin Wang, director of IHS Markit China, Xiaomi does not want to engage in "hunger marketing", and the reason for the Xiaomi Mi MIX to be called a "concept" phone, is that it cannot be mass-produced at the moment. Posting on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, Mr. Wang explains that the production capacity for the futuristic device will be limited to only around 10,000 units per month.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX is an incredible fusion of design and innovation, owing much of its sophisticated flair to French designer Philippe Starck who was in charge of designing the phone. It also packs a worthy punch in terms of specs. The device rocks a 6.4-inch display that takes more than 90 percent of the phone's whole front surface. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and the Adreno 530 for graphics.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX is expected to launch Nov. 4. Xiaomi has confirmed with us that the phone will be sold in China only.
