Xiaomi Mi5 is roughly a month away. The long-rumored smartphone, which some fans have been anticipating for over a year, is set to launch next month. Now we're being treated to a close-up look at the Mi5 thanks to a leaked photo shared on Chinese social network Weibo.
The leaked image shows that Mi 5 will have a metal body and a more rounded shape compared to the Mi 5. The metal body, seems to be similar to what we see on the phones like the iPhone 6S or the HTC One A9 although in terms of looks the phone seems to share more similarities with Samsung's Galaxy S6. The similarity with the Samsung phone is accentuated by the presence of the physical home button, which is also likely to house a fingerprint scanner.
This Xiaomi phone has a metal frame (you can see there is a plastic stripe at the top, which is necessary on metal phones, so that they have better signal reception), and it looks fairly thin. There is also a physical home key (most likely, with a fingerprint scanner embedded in it), and what looks like an infra-red beamer at the top.
The Xiaomi company is expected to release the phone in two versions that are said to differ in the materials they use. The more affordable model is said to have a metal frame sandwiched between two slabs of glass on the back and the front, while the pricier one(Xiaomi Mi5 Plus) is said to have a metal back in lieu of the glass. The more affordable is also said to come with a 1080 x 1920-pixel display resolution and 3GB of RAM, while the costlier one should ship with a Quad HD display and 4GB of RAM.
As far as we know the Xiaomi Mi5 won't be available in the U.S. or Europe. Xiaomi's still only selling its phones in China and a few other countries, though it's still managed to become one of the biggest players in the mobile market. Eventually Xiaomi is expected to expand globally, but it could be another year or longer before that happens.
