The Xiaomi Redmi 3 proved to be simply the best affordable smartphone on the market in 2015. It received an Editors Choice award from Android Authority and rocked a solid 8.5 score in our official review, with the mediocre camera really being the only thing to pull the device's score down. With the Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro looming, we were excited to see what the mid-range smartphone maker would bring to the table. It turns out the answer is: a fingerprint sensor.
As far as we can tell, that's all that "Pro" really means for the Redmi 3 Pro. The $120 smartphone is almost identical to its non-professional forerunner save for the addition of a fingerprint sensor. Still, that's not really anything to complain about. Xiaomi mobile is refraining from fixing what ain't broke with the next version of their popular mid-range device. Spec-wise, we'll be looking at a 5-inch, 720p display that showcases the processing capabilities of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 1.5GHz octa-core processor. Dual SIM support? That's right. And you'll be rocking 3GB of RAM and 32 gigs of internal storage. All this is supported by a 4100mAh battery, and you get Lollipop out of the box.
Those specs for $120 and they're throwing in a fingerprint sensor to boot? Uh, sign me up. With a cost low enough to act as a secondary handset but specs good enough to make it worthy of being your main driver, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro is going to be a pretty tempting smartphone once it hits the market on April 4th.
