Xiaomi officially introduced today the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and the Xiaomi Redmi 4A. These are all budget priced handsets that will be available in China only, at least for now. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with a 5-inch screen carrying a 720 x 1280 resolution. The Snapdragon 430 chipset powers the phone containing a quad-core 1.4GHz CPU, and the Adreno 505 GPU. 2GB of RAM is inside along with 16GB of expandable native storage. A microSD card can be used with the hybrid SIM tray. A 128GB capacity microSD slot is available for those seeking additional storage.
The Redmi 4 has an accent on the camera at the back and a 2.5D glass at the front. Redmi 4 also comes with a 5" IPS screen of 720p resolution, but is powered by the Snapdragon 430 chip with an octa-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 505 GPU, and 2 gigs of RAM.
The main camera, although still of 13MP resolution, is a different unit and sits centered at the back. It supports phase-detection autofocus and comes with a dual-LED (but not daul-tone) flash. The 5MP selfie shooter is the same as on the 4A model. Xiaomi Redmi 4 has an always-on fingerprint scanner at the back, below the main camera. The rest of the Redmi 4 specs include 16GB expandable storage on a hybrid dual-SIM slot, Bluetooth 4.1 support, and a 4,100 mAh battery. The phone runs on MIUI 8 with Marshmallow underneath.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 is already on pre-order in China and will go on sale in Monday, November 7. You can grab the handset in gold, silver, or dark gray paintjobs for CNY 699 or $104.
The Redmi 4A is the cheapest among the Redmi 4 series but still has an all-metal body, even if it looks slightly different from the other two. The phone packs a 5" IPS screen of 720p resolution and runs on the Snapdragon 425 chipset with a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 308, and 2GB of RAM.
Its 13MP main camera sits at the top-left corner of the back, accompanied by a single LED flash. There is a 5MP selfie snapper at the front. There is no fingerprint scanner on the Redmi 4A.
The two variants of the Redmi 4, and the Redmi 4A, are all on the opposite end of the smartphone scale compared to the high-end models recently launched by the manufacturer. Those models include the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and the Xiaomi Mi MIX.
